Union releases names in southwest Iowa train crash

Names of the two railroad workers killed in a collision Sunday have been confirmed by the United Transportation Union Local 199. Conductor Patricia Hyatt and engineer Tom Anderson, both 48, both of Creston, were killed when the Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train they were on rear-ended another eastbound BNSF train near the unincorporated town of McPherson, between Emerson and Red Oak. The accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Hyatt was a member of United Transportation Union Local 199 and Anderson was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, said Jody Coenen, secretary and treasurer of Local 199. Officials at Burlington Northern Santa Fe, the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Railroad Administration and the Montgomery County sheriff’s office all declined to release details or confirm the names of the train employees on Tuesday.
